The source for Tōzoku is itself an act of translation: a Japanese reinterpretation of the American bandana. Its pattern is divided among three wooden blocks, each carved by hand, soaked in mustard oil and dried in the sun before printing onto a textured linen ground. Tōzoku means “bandit” or “outlaw.”
